Warning Signs of Aging Indicated by Your Hands!

Aging doesn’t only affect our overall health but also affects the quality of our skin. Nowadays, we tend to spend a lot on beauty products to keep our face looking youthful forever. But we often tend to neglect our hands. Our hands require the same love and care as the rest of our body. Moreover, aging decreases the functionality of your hands, especially after you turn 65. So, let’s educate ourselves on how does aging affect our hands!

4 Signs of Aging Seen in Our Hands:

  1. Strength of Your Grip:

After the age of 65, your hands become weaker, and hence, you’ll notice that you won’t be able to grip objects very well. This can also be due to some underlying medical conditions such as osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis. Moreover, our hands have some extrinsic and intrinsic muscles which are responsible for movement. With age, these muscles weaken and that’s why the strength of your grip plummets too.

What Can You Do to Treat It?

To maintain your hand grip, you can always perform some strengthening exercises. You can try to hold a softball in your hands and try to squeeze it as much as possible for a few seconds. You must do this exercise three to four times a day.

  1. Age Spots:

Aging can lead to the appearance of small, dark areas on the skin, which are usually seen after long exposure to the sun. Such spots can appear on hands, feet, arms, shoulders, face, etc. Although such spots are common in people over 50 years of age; they can also appear in younger people.

What Can You Do to Treat It?

Spots on hands due to aging cannot be treated at home. You’ll have to go to your dermatologists who’ll recommend treatments such as chemical peel, microdermabrasion, medications, etc. Also, you must wear sunscreen whenever you go out.

  1. Wrinkles:

You must’ve noticed some wrinkles on the hands of your grandma or grandpa. Hands are one of the first organs on which wrinkles appear. But do you know why wrinkles appear with aging? This is because as we age, the collagen production in our skin plummets. Therefore, our skin becomes thin and loose. It doesn’t retain any moisture and elasticity, giving rise to wrinkles.

What Can You Do to Treat Wrinkles:

Wrinkles can be easily treated by consuming some essential vitamins such as vitamin A and minerals. Your dermatologist may also recommend some treatments such as chemical peels, laser skin resurfacing, dermabrasion or microdermabrasion, wrinkle creams, etc.

  1. Brittle Nails:

Your nails can get severely affected due to aging. One of the common aging signs seen in nails is that they become dry and brittle. Brittle nails are more prone to breaking. The main culprit behind this problem is trauma, repeated wetting, harsh chemical treatments, cosmetics, vitamin deficiencies, etc.

What Can You Do to Treat It?

To keep your nails nourished and moisturized with dedicated nail oil having alpha hydroxy acid or lanolin as an ingredient. Try to avoid using alcohol-based sanitizers and manicures. Also, give your nails a paraffin wax bath once a while.
